Geography & Environmental Science: Sustainability
Geography & Environmental Science: Sustainability, The Principles of Sustainability.
Dear learners all across the globe. Welcome to the Geography and Environmental Science: The Principles of Sustainability Course. I am delighted to know that you are among those who have a keen interest in this study.
I am Annisa Joviani Astari who will be an instructor of this course.
The sustainability themes in this course are driven by environmental issues being a common concern for the global community, and sustainable development is emerging as an institution with a holistic view to encapsulate common problems. Further added to the relationship of the concept of geography because of the background of instructors who are in the field of geography and have relationships with environmental studies.
The learning objectives of MOOC are to expect participants can understand the concept of sustainability as well as the introduction of limiting factors, understand the concept of the tragedy of the common and governing the commons, understand the concept of the triple bottom line, and finally understand the concept of sustainable development in the context of geography. This goal is the target of learning in the first week that focuses more on the introduction and understanding of concepts.
Also, in the following weeks, we will focus more on the discussion of sustainability applications and case studies related to sustainability. The first case study on deforestation, the next application of the triple bottom line concept in asparagus farming in Indonesia, the last case study on palm oil production and its impact.
This course was funded by the Indonesian Ministry of Education – Program Kompetitisi Kampus Merdeka (PKKM) and supported by the University of Leeds and Asosiasi Program Studi Teknologi Pendidikan Indonesia (APS-TPI)
